South Asian Theatre with Universal Appeal

Embarking

It’s been a hot summer! With any luck, it’ll cool down in September. Here’s hoping. It’s been nice to spend the time looking at the cool oceanic imagery on our posters for The Kingdom of Cards. The marketing team and I have been working hard not only on putting together copy and social media posts for our first show of the season but also on building this very website. (By the way, happy birthday, enacte.org 2.0!)

I love theatre, which is why I’m here. I’ve been enjoying my work on the marketing team here, but I’m also excited to be taking over new responsibilities after I move that are more (more on that later) in line with my background. I’m a playwright and recent college graduate. As I’m starting to ascend the ladder of my own burgeoning career, EnActe has been a great place to learn about the side of theatre I’ve never been familiar with. I mean, I’ve learned a lot about social media in the last two months, and even more about poster design. Who knows what I’ll learn next? Here’s hoping.

So, I mentioned my upcoming move earlier. I’m moving to New York City, where I plan to Never Sleep and eat Big Apples all day. And also, I’ll transition to a bit of a different role at EnActe. From afar, I will be both helping to fill EnActe’s next season and building relationships with emerging and established playwrights. Our mission to represent the diverse cultural gifts that South Asia and the South Asian diaspora have brought the world is important to me. I want to help EnActe grow, and I’m thrilled to be able to continue the work even as I take an important next step for my own growth.

To quote my favorite musical, theatre can “make you see how the world could be, in spite of the way that is”. I’m happy to honor that sentiment here. To imagine a brighter world and work together to make it real. Here’s hoping.
