Production Positions
Associate Artistic Director
EnActe Arts is seeking an experienced and skilled theatremaker with administrative experience to serve as its Associate Artistic Director.
Position Details:
Based in: Sunnyvale, with possibility of national and international travel.
Type: Full time exempt, in person (no remote options).
Salary: Commensurate with experience, median $80,000 per annum.
Medical benefits: Available through CAATA, not offered directly.
Vacation: all and only State mandated days

The Associate Artistic Director (AAD) is responsible for implementing the artistic vision and mission of EnActe Arts.
The Associate Artistic Director will serve as the face of EnActe and manage production responsibilities, be the point of liaison for all artists, the production liaison between forecasting, production, general management, and the operational liaison between EnActe and all strategic partners. The Associate Artistic Director will have the opportunity to direct at least one play per Season at EnActe.
To perform their duties –
The candidate must have their own transportation plan and a clean CA drivers licence.
The candidate must be digitally skilled – G-Suite, Adobe, and be willing to learn AI
efficiency tools, and manage social media and CRM related activities.
Responsibilities:
Season Setting
- Assist the Artistic Director in identifying plays for the Season, shortlisting and scheduling the plays, getting performance rights.
- Assist the Artistic Director in Managing EIPC – EnActe International Playwriting Competition (bi-annual), including running the competition and shortlisting winners
- Manage the New Works Festival, which includes staged readings of EIPC winners, films, and other forms of storytelling.
Venues
- Manage the EnActerium – EnActe’s physical space – scheduling rehearsals, partnering for co-use of the space with other organizations and individuals via a calendar and daily operations management.
- Assist the Artistic Director in actively seeking new co-production partners and maintain ongoing relationships with all partners co-using the EnActerium.
- Maintain the physical integrity and cleanliness of the space, equipment and assets.
- Actively seek and contract with outside performance venues as per the needs of EnActe productions and programs.
Production
- Assist the Artistic Director in choosing content for the New Works Festival and executing the Festival.
- Maintain a Grants calendar, and assist the Artistic Director in grant writing.
- Develop and execute seamless communication between production and all other functions, including marketing, development and hiring.
- Oversee and manage the organization’s programming and production schedule, including coordinating with collaborators, playwrights, directors, and actors
- Issue all production related contracts, maintain a calendar of payments and work with finance to ensure that all payments are made in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure the smooth execution of all productions and events, including coordinating with marketing and sales staff to promote productions and events
- Manage production staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Supervise the maintenance of a written procedures manual for technical and production staff
- Coordinate with technical staff to ensure all production and technical needs are met, including lighting, sound, and set design.
- Collaborate with the Artistic Director to develop and manage production budgets
- Maintain a comprehensive record of EnActe Arts’ programs,productions’ impact.
- Ensure all productions and events comply with relevant laws and regulations, including health and safety guidelines and intellectual property rights.
- Manage relationships with venues, vendors, and other external partners to ensure successful production and execution of all productions and events.
- Continuously evaluate and improve production processes and workflows to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Manage Venue Bookings and Performance Scheduling.
Sales and Marketing
- Dedicate time for direct sales and building relationships with audience members, potential audience members and marketing partners for ticket sales for EnActe productions and events.
- Create and oversee an elegant Front of House experience for all events.
- Assist the marketing team in their needs for developing marketing and promotional assets for all performances, including utilization of all Social Media Platforms.
- Effectively communicate the organization’s mission and values to all stakeholders.
- Maximize visibility of and be an ambassador for Brand EnActe – both in base cities and at conferences and the world at large.
Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Theater Arts or the equivalent in relevant experience and education
- Excellent communication, community building, analytical, and leadership skills
- A personal practice as an artist, preferably as an actor and/or director
- Directing experience
- Knowledge of/experience with IATSE and AEA rules and regulations
- Knowledge of/experience with fundraising, grant writing, and working within a community

Production Manager
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Production Manager is responsible for the management of all production elements of EnActe Arts’ productions and events.
These include but are not restricted to sourcing venues, recruiting and managing creative teams and managing the entire production process for each show and event.
The Production Manager works with production staff, theatre spaces and related equipment.
Reporting to the Artistic Director, this position requires maintaining a high level of artistic integrity, safety and appropriate working environment for artistic and production personnel.
JOB DUTIES:
– Plan each Season with the Artistic Director and team
– Source and contract venues for EnActe performances across Bay Area and other geographies for each Season
– Run auditions for shows and events
– Manage the EnActe rehearsal space for EnActe use and hourly rentals to other creatives.
– Maintain the production master sheet, the schedule and all production meetings for each show, attend all production meetings and distribute notes on action items.
– Manage and monitor expenditure and ensure adherence to production, staffing and maintenance budgets
– Contract and supervise production related staff and designers in coordination with the Director and Producer
– Ensure all production personnel are well trained, all activities in the production department are handled in a safe and responsible manner, and that the behavior in performance spaces is monitored and respectful.
– Create, maintain, share and archive technical documentation and physical and digital inventories
– Work with designers, directors and production staff to ensure that all productions are realized to the highest artistic standard, within the constraints of the EnActe’s schedules and budget
– Participate in Tech, Load in and Load out
– Maintain very good relationships with all the performance and event venues that EnActe uses and create new venue relationships proactively.
Qualifications / Required Skills
REQUIREMENTS:
– Professional attitude with very acute and detailed attention to details
– Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and to establish and meet deadlines in a timely manner
– Excellent communication and collaborative skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate people
– Knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation of stage settings, scenery, lighting systems,sound etc. that make up a production or event.
– Experience working with automated lighting controls (ETC Ion), digital sound consoles (Allen & Heath Qu-16), and QLab
– Knowledge of/willingness to learn the American Theatre Agreement, and other association agreements (Associated Designers of America, etc.)
– Knowledge of/willingness to learn about provincial Employment Standards Act, and Occupational Health and Safety Act, with specific regards to the live performance guidelines
QUALIFICATIONS:
– College or Associate degree or equivalent experience, a specialization in theatre is desirable and a passion for theatre and theatre making is a must.
– One to three years experience working as a production manager in a professional or independent theatre context.

Do you have any experience with film & theatre? Are you a college student or a recent college graduate looking to enter the teaching and/or dramatic arts workforce? Are you a highly experienced teacher of drama looking for a few extra hours of work per week?
EnActe School of Drama (ESoD) is currently accepting applications for Teaching Artists for our elementary, middle, and high school programs. We will be hiring an array
of Teachers/Educators from multiple disciplines such as: Acting, Creative Writing, Directing, Film, Production, etc.
Classes begin in late August and will be in person throughout the San Jose/Silicon Valley area between the hours of 3:45pm-6pm. You must have reliable transportation. Our sessions are in 6- 10 week increments and we run our programs year-round.
ESoD offers a wide range of courses that are designed for students of all levels. We implement classic theatrical training in all of our curriculum to: uplift students’ confidence, increase their ability to speak publicly, and connect with their emotions.
